To properly measure the height of your garage for your car lift, make sure you account for any obstructions such as overhead garage door openers. Another important aspect is the installation of your car lift. Two and four post lifts have specific concrete requirements. However, lifts with larger foot prints, like the storage lifts do not have requirements on concrete.
If you are unsure of the thickness and PSI of your concrete and want to install a 2 or 4 post lift you should pour concrete pads. The basic rule is that you need the pads to be 12" wider on each side from the base plates of the lift. For a 2 post, you'll need to go down at least 2 feet. For a 4 post, you'll need to go down at least 6". New concrete also must cure for at least 28 days before installing your car lift.

How do I know which car lift I should buy?
This is a common question our customers ask when looking to purchase an automotive lift (car lift). They are usually deciding between a 2 post lift or a 4 post lift. The main factor to consider when deciding on your lift purchase is "What am I using this lift for".
Well to help with your decision, below we have highlighted a few questions to ask yourself?
If storing a car or portability sounds like the task you are most likely to be using a lift for, then the four post lift is highly recommended. A four post lift is able to support an entire car or truck much better than a two post lift. The four post lifts are more like a bed being able to support the entire vehicle. A four post lift is also designed for portability and most come with a free caster kit. Not only is the four post lift portable with the use of the casters, but you can also permanently anchor the lift to your floor. As for power, four post lifts generally feature a 110 volt motor and easy installation because no special wiring is required.
If repair and maintenance is what you are looking to do with your lift, then the 2 post lift is for you. The two post car lift are the most inexpensive lift for raising vehicles with heavy weights, whereas the four post lifts require an auxiliary lift at an extra cost. These lifts allows you to have access to all parts of the vehicle for repairs and service including easy access to your wheels. The two post lifts will raise your car higher in a low ceiling garage. If you have a 10 foot ceiling, a two post lift will raise most vehicles to about 6 feet of the ground. Not as portable as the four post lifts, the 2 post lifts MUST be anchored to the ground. And as for power, two post lifts come with a 220 volt single phase motor.
